What is inside
Four subjects, one topic list
The Sub-Inspector examination of the Staff Selection Commission tests the same four subject areas in both written papers; the second paper simply asks harder questions on those topics. The attached files are official SSC documents, headed by the 2026 recruitment notice, which contains the scheme and syllabus along with the physical and medical standards. Earlier notices and result write-ups are included so you can see how the paper has evolved.
What each subject asks
| Subject | Topics to prepare |
|---|---|
| General Intelligence and Reasoning | Analogies, classification, series, coding and decoding, syllogisms, Venn diagrams, pattern folding, embedded figures, directions-style problem solving, and address or date matching |
| General Knowledge and Awareness | Current events, everyday science, India and its neighbours, the economy, polity and the Constitution, scientific research |
| Quantitative Aptitude | Number system, percentages, ratio, averages, interest, profit and loss, mixtures, time and work, algebra, geometry, mensuration, trigonometry, data interpretation |
| English Comprehension | Error spotting, fill in the blanks, vocabulary, spellings, grammar, synonyms and antonyms, idioms, sentence completion, reading passages |
Who should use this and how
Candidates who already know the broad shape of the paper can use the table as a tracking sheet: tick each line once you can solve ten questions on it without help. Beginners should start with arithmetic and grammar, since those reward steady practice, and leave figural reasoning for later when the faster topics are in place.
- Open the main notice to confirm the official wording before you finalise your plan.
- Check the old-scheme notice when you want to see how the earlier paper was balanced.
- Use the normalization document to understand how multi-shift scores are made comparable.
Mapping to the exam
Because the 2026 first paper has twenty-five questions per subject, each syllabus line is worth very little individually; breadth matters more than depth in any single chapter. The second paper has a larger English block, so grammar and comprehension deserve a bigger share of your hours than they would for many other SSC exams.
Printed material
If you prefer working from paper, Competer sells printed SSC books and practice sets for these subjects, which can be matched line by line against the list above.
