What is inside this Insights IAS collection

Insights IAS is a well-known free UPSC preparation site that published current affairs material for civil services aspirants. This page gathers a set of 35 of its older PDFs, mostly from 2016 to 2018. They are English-language files built for the preliminary and main stage of the UPSC exam, and they come in five kinds.

Kind of file What it does Files in this set
Daily quiz compilations Questions based on the news of the month, for prelims practice 7 monthly compilations from 2017
Editorial summaries Short notes on newspaper editorials, for mains answer ideas 8 months of 2017
Monthly current affairs Month-wise capsules of national and international news 8 magazines from 2016 and 2017
Yojana summaries Notes on the monthly Yojana magazine 8 months of 2017
Mind maps One-page visual summaries of the month 4 monthly sets from 2018

How the files are organised

The daily quiz files are compiled month by month for 2017, with page counts ranging from about two dozen to more than seventy. The monthly current affairs magazines are the longest items, running past one hundred pages in several months. Editorial and Yojana summaries are shorter and easier to finish in a sitting, and the 2018 mind maps are the quickest to revise from because each month fits into a handful of pages.

Who should use it and how

These files suit aspirants who want to see how current affairs were presented in past cycles, or who are practising on a shortlist of older questions. They are useful for building the habit of linking news to the static syllabus. For the present exam year, add the latest annual and monthly issues, because dated schemes, reports and indices go stale quickly.

  • Use the monthly capsules to learn how to organise news by subject.
  • Attempt the quizzes before reading the matching capsule to test recall.
  • Turn editorial notes into practice for mains answer points.
  • Keep the mind maps for the last week of revision on a topic.
  • Verify any figure or scheme status against current sources before relying on it.

How it maps to the syllabus

UPSC area Where these files help
Prelims GS Paper 1 Quizzes and monthly capsules on current events, polity, economy and environment
Mains GS 2 and GS 3 Editorial notes and Yojana summaries on governance, schemes and economy
Essay and ethics Editorial ideas and case examples for answer enrichment

Since the files predate the current cycle, treat them as practice and background rather than as final revision for the coming exam.
