A paper to practise against
This four-page PDF, about 1.2 MB, carries the title SSLC 2018 Social Science. It is a past paper from the Kerala Secondary School Leaving Certificate examination for the year 2018. The file is a question paper and does not include a lesson or a set of notes.
The subject it tests
Social science in class 10 gathers several disciplines into one paper. Students usually meet questions from history, geography, civics and economics, and the paper moves between short factual items and longer explanations. A past paper helps you see which type of answer each section wants.
| Strand | What to rehearse with this paper |
|---|---|
| History | Timelines, causes and effects, important personalities |
| Geography | Map reading, climate, resources and diagrams |
| Civics | Constitutional ideas, institutions and rights |
| Economics | Terms, simple charts and everyday applications |
The table lists general strands of the subject; the paper itself tells you what appeared in 2018.
How to make the most of it
Start with the questions you can answer from memory, then tackle those that need longer writing. Practise labelling maps and drawing neat diagrams, since presentation earns marks. After finishing, compare your answers with the textbook and highlight where you wrote vaguely. Vague phrasing is the most common reason for lost marks in descriptive answers.
Making a revision loop
- Attempt the paper in the time you would have in the exam hall.
- Mark mistakes with a pencil and note the textbook chapter.
- Re-read that chapter within two days.
- Return to the same questions after a week and answer them again.
Mark-wise thinking
Check how many marks each question carries and plan your time accordingly. A one-mark item deserves under a minute, while a long descriptive item may deserve six or seven. Students often lose time on a hard small question and then rush the big ones. Practising with a past paper lets you rehearse this budget and note where it went wrong, so that on exam day you move on confidently when a question resists.
Who it suits
Class 10 students in Kerala schools and teachers who want a ready set for classroom tests. Students of other boards should treat it as general practice only.
Please note
The page does not mention an answer key. Ask your teacher for model answers, and always rely on the current year’s textbook and pattern.
