What is inside

What this syllabus page lays out

The material follows the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education structure for Class 10 and lists the chapters examined in 2027, subject by subject. It is especially handy for the parts the board has restricted: for First Language Bengali only grammar chapters are listed, and for Second Language English only grammar and vocabulary are named, with the rest tested from the textbooks.

Subject outlines

  • Bengali grammar: case relations, compound words, sentences and voice, spread across the first, second and third summative stages.
  • English grammar and vocabulary: items practised in Classes IX and X, worth 20 marks.
  • Mathematics: quadratic equations, simple and compound interest, circle theorems, solids such as the cuboid, cylinder, cone and sphere, ratio and proportion, variation, partnership, similarity, surds, trigonometry and statistics.
  • Physical Science: a common area with environment, plus physics and chemistry units.
  • Life Science and History: chapter blueprints show how many MCQs, very short answers and short answers are given per chapter.
  • Geography: physical, environmental and regional geography, satellite imagery and the outline map of India worth 10 marks.

How the stages fit together

Chapters are tied to the summative evaluations held through the year, April for the first, August for the second and the selection test for the third. This sequence helps you pace revision: finish the first-stage chapters well before the later ones pile up.

Area Mark weight mentioned
Bengali grammar 16 marks
English grammar and vocabulary 20 marks
Geography: atmosphere and hydrosphere 32 marks (physical geography)
Geography: waste management 8 marks
Geography: regional, India 32 marks
Geography: map of India 10 marks

Study approach

Sit with the 148-page syllabus book and tick off each chapter as you finish the textbook portion. Chapters marked with proofs in mathematics, such as chord and tangent theorems, need written practice rather than reading.

Reading the blueprint lines

For History and Life Science, the syllabus shows a blueprint beside each chapter, telling you how many one-mark and two-mark questions the board plans to set from it. Use these lines to rank chapters: those that give a guaranteed short answer deserve early attention, since an easy two marks is worth the same in every chapter.

Printed practice

Class 10 revision books and question banks are available in the Competer school section when you need printed worksheets next to the syllabus.
