A map-first way to learn current affairs
Many aspirants can recall an event but not where it happened. The News through Maps booklet in the 2025 PT 365 line is aimed at this exact gap. It spreads over 60 pages and, at about 43 MB, is a heavy file, which is a good sign that it relies on images and maps more than on dense paragraphs.
Typical use cases
- Locating countries, straits, rivers, ports and regions that appeared in the news.
- Understanding why a conflict, treaty or project is tied to a particular place.
- Linking a current event to physical or economic geography facts.
A method that sticks
Keep a blank outline map beside you. After going through a page, try to mark the places from memory and write a few words next to each. Doing this a day later and again a week later converts passive viewing into recall. If you can, trace a route or a boundary with your finger, because the motion helps memory.
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | View the map page |
| 2 | Close it and sketch from memory |
| 3 | Check and correct |
| 4 | Repeat after a week |
Syllabus link
The material bridges current affairs and geography, so it supports the prelims, especially questions on world geography, international relations settings and places in the news. It is also helpful to mains candidates for the mapping portion of Paper 1 and to answers that benefit from a spatial reference.
Caution
Because it is tied to the 2025 cycle, treat it as supplementary reading. Use a geography textbook and an atlas for the base knowledge.
Linking maps to static geography
Each location in the news is also a doorway to static facts. A strait leads to trade routes, a river to its basin and neighbours, a mountain range to its climate effect. Use the booklet as the entry point, and then add two static facts to every place you mark. Over a month this builds a layered mental atlas where current events and fixed geography reinforce each other, which is exactly what map-based prelims questions demand.
Printed route
A large image-heavy PDF can be slow on a phone. Competer carries printed current-affairs and atlas-style material that you can browse and mark in colour.
